In my exhibition, Get Out the Map, I exhibited work inspired by maps. Blending the interface between the camera, the computer and other art media, primarily encaustic collage, I create images that reflect the mystery and adventure we feel when we look at a new map. Perhaps we will just find our way to where we’re going, but maybe we’ll find a treasure! I have always been fascinated by maps. I have been using and making maps in my art for many years, and this show was a natural culmination of this enduring interest.

Most of my current work is encaustic collage. Encaustic - painting with hot wax - is a very ancient medium, used by the Greeks as far back as 400 BC, and brought into its current popularity in part by Jasper Johns. I am using it in an eclectic manner - adding elements of my digital images and drawings, watercolors, photographs, many other bits and pieces, and stamps and maps, of course. I am also experimenting with creating 3-dimensional work on which I paint and collage. I love the way beeswax creates both physical and visual depth and translucency to the work - adding to the mystery and magic I’m trying to convey. But first and foremost. my work expresses the joy I feel in my art..
