After retiring from a career in engineering and management several years ago, I have been able to devote full time to my art, which consists primarily of oil paintings.
Although I enjoy working on a variety of subject matter, over the past several years I have been focusing on landscapes and cityscapes. I am particularly attracted to nighttime cityscapes because of their dramatic colors and lighting effects. The result has been a series of paintings depicting city scenes at night, or in some instances at sunrise or sunset if I feel that a more colorful sky will enhance the image.
More recently I have started a new series of landscape paintings which are more impressionistic in style. I have achieved this change by using palette knifes to spread the paint on a hard masonite surface, as opposed to using brushes on canvas. I am finding that I like the process and the results, and I am looking forward to further exploration in this area.
