In my work, using images of sea, sky and land forms, and working with an abstract sense of light and space, I try to convey a variety of moods. In some I try for a sense of silence and solitude, in others I try to create interest in the abstract design of the piece, using the different and ever changing techniques available to a printmaker. Then there are the prints that recall places I've travelled to and my memories of them.

Vivian Berman, a Lexington resident, was born in New York City and received a BFA at Cooper Union. Formerly a book jacket designer and calligrapher; since 1970 she has worked primarily as a printmaker and teaches printmaking at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Mass. She has exhibited widely in the
United States and internationally and her prints have been included in most major competitive shows, where they have received numerous awards.

Her work has been shown in many invitational exhibitions including the Brooklyn Museum; City Museum, Hond Kong; Pratt Graphic Center, New York; Haifa University, Israel; British Biennale, Bradford, England; Universities of North Dakota, Wyoming, and New Hampshire. Her work is included in the collections of the Library of Congress, The Boston Public Library, DeCordova Museum, Pennsylvania Academy of Art, U.S.Information Agency, Dartmouth College, the Fogg Museum and many other public, private and corporate collections throughout the world.

Ms. Berman is a past president of The Boston Printmakers and still serves on the Executive Board of that organization. She won a fellowship to the MacDowell Colony in 1981 and is listed in "Who's Who in American Art".
